Like the airlines seems that they are adding a fuel surcharge but as they price up the cruise some 18months or more in advance and fuel prices have shot up it maybe understandable,we have booked 2 cruises for next year both have a different surcharge per day, as we booked them at different times,the one we have booked for later this year has not had one added?(yet) .
Depends on the company.We are going on P and O and Thompson cruises,
Both adopt the 2%- 10% rule.I.E. if charges rise up to 2% they absorb them.If between 2% to 10% you pay with no chance of cancellation without forfeiture.If over 10% you can cancel and get a full refund.I reckon on paying up to 10% more which I can afford but would cancel if above 10%.

Reading the clauses in the 2008 P and O brochure the meaning is far from clear and I suspect, deliberately so.
Then clauses refer to increases between 2 and 10 per cent but are silent on the options open to the customer. I suspect this is due to P and O being cautious about falling foul of the Unfair Contract Terms Act, which might well regard the suggestion that the client cannot reject the contract and receive her deposit back, as being in contravention of the Law.
In practice most clients would assume they would have to pay. Also in practice, transportation companies are scared stiff of the Unfair Contracts Act.
