Orient Lines, and its single ship Marco Polo was bought by Norwegian Cruise Lines in 1998, and then by Star Cruises in 2000. The ship has continued to operate under the Orient Lines brand name and will continue to do so for the next few months until taken over by Transocean Cruises operating out of Tilbury. I cruised on Marco Polo on three occasions and in addition to the Seven Seas Restaurant, there was a buffet restaurant Raffles, which on some evenings became an alternative dining venue. On formal nights I think the dress code applied to both restaurants. When I travelled on Marco Polo the ship offered a reasonable 3 star cruising experience; most passengers being attracted by the unusual itineraries. In my opinion the food was only of average quality. I have no idea what effect the takeover by Transocean will have, as I have no knowledge of that company. I'm sure that as first time cruisers you will enjoy the experience and soon become as addicted to cruising as the rest of us.
