Although I am not a wheelchair user I've just returned (yesterday) from a cruise on the Island Escape. I do pay perhaps more attention than others to the plight of wheelchair users as my mother has been a user for a number of years now. I can confirm that most on-board areas are accessible to wheelchair users, although it must be said that passengers are not always as thoughtful as they could be when placing sun loungers and chairs in the walkways around the pool and in the entertainment areas (was it not always thus?) The lifts on board (3) are very efficient and the staff are among the most helpful that I've come across on this type of holiday. I'd advise careful selection of cabin as the basic type would be very restrictive in terms of manouvering a wheelchair. I notice that taxis were readily available at every port although you may have to make your own way to the dock gates in some instances. Experience has proved that using taxis can also be very cost effective in comparison to the official excursions! Hope this helps you a bit. Iwan Jone.

Yes I took my husband two years ago on a Med cruise on Escape, very pleasant only concern was no disabled toilets as such but people were very helpful and assisted where I could not, being mens toilets not separate as I would of expected and we had no problems with taxi's at ports when we got off as and when re required them. Have a lovely cruis.

TRavelled last year on the island escape witha 96yr old ..on the shhip absolutely no problem crew were very helpful and took over a lot of the chair pushing ....however depending on which cruise u are taking Naples is a no go area with a wheelchair as pavements are high and traffic will not stop unless u are on the actual road a visit to pompei is out ...too hilly and rough if the boat is dovcked far away from port then u are bussed in to town...high steps on buses ...Taxi's at the port/ship are very expensive un;ess u can share the costs with other passengers as we did ...on a trip to Pisa and Lucca ...ships own excursions cost an arm and a leg ...and they are not the best tours...better to try and share costs with other passengers as the crew are so friendly it makes the passengers more friendly with each other... Happyy Holiday ....also the disabled cabin is a high ramp that does the pusher back in and not much room to manuover...but if wheelchair user has some mobility it not to bad at al.
