I visited Tahiti on a cruise earlier this year. There is much to see - at a price! We were unlucky that I was there on Election day so the roads were very busy. It's a beautiful island but rather spoiled by too much tourism. Although English is spoken widely it is an advantage to speak French. There were plenty of taxis and local buses, the latter of which were reasonably prices. If you take one make sure that you get back in time to meet the sailing deadline. The Gaugin museum is interesting but most of the artifacts are copies as the originals are in France. These islands are magic. For myself I preferred the Cook Islands. I hope you have a great cruise.
