The prepaid covers your stateroom attendant[s] and your waiters in the main diningroom. If you do request food drinks to be brought to your stateroom then usually if done promptly you give 1/2 dollars. As far as wine waiters; bar staff and hairdessers etc there is a 15% charge added to the bill. I usually tip the staff members who brings the suitcases to our stateroom but that about covers that area.
No, the tips go to 4 poople, - your room steward, your waiter, your asst waiter and the Maitre d'. On the last night you will get 4 envelopes in your room, each one addressed to one of the above individuals; you will also get a sheet of pre printed vouchers. You put the voucher for the room steward in the envelope addressed to the room steward, and so on, and then you hand the envelope to the individual concerned with a smile and your thanks for their hard work over the week. If you want to put in more cash that is totally up to you, but no need to. There is no need to tip anyone else on board the ship. Why have you pre-paid? I have been cruising 20 years and only tipped the people I think deserved it. Why tip BEFORE you get service, would you go into a restaurant and tip before you have received your meal? I think not.
I totally agree - the advice of Aldrich on tipping and on many other things is both misleading and so definitive to be laughable. I don't know why but over the past few weeks his vocabulary has changed to that of a self styled oracle that is not to be argued with.The guy who speaks the most sense on tipping is Neil Down, whose replies are common sense and logical.
